In a landmark move, Ford has declared that it plans to become carbon neutral by 2050.
Ford has become the sole full-line U.S. auto manufacturer to follow the Paris Climate Agreement and reduce C02 emissions, as well as work with the state of California for better vehicle greenhouse gas standards.
Ford’s Plan
Carbon neutrality means that Ford intends to aim for zero carbon emissions. Ford has developed three goals; Scope One focuses on emissions from sources that are company-owned and controlled. Scope Two tackles emissions produced from sources that Ford purchases and consumes indirectly, such as electricity, heating, and cooling. Finally, Scope Three works on the emissions produced by vehicles in the supply base, cars driven by consumers.
Tangible Actions
Ford is currently investing over $11.5 billion in electric vehicles and has started to create and develop zero-emission versions of popular vehicles. These include the Mustang Mach-E, Transit Commercial EV, and the electric F-150. With an electric vehicle, you can help do your part to reduce your carbon footprint as you drive around Kingman.
A responsible supply chain is an important factor in achieving carbon neutrality. Ford has joined forces with Manufacture 2023, which helps suppliers manage, measure, and reduce carbon emissions by identifying areas for improvement in its operations.
Ford has also announced that by 2035 it intends to use 100 percent renewable energy from local sources for all its manufacturing centers around the world. Sources would include geothermal energy, solar and wind power, and hydropower. This would reduce the reliance on fossil fuels, which create massive carbon emissions.
Ford also knows that we work better together, which is why it is gathering a worldwide team of thinkers, scientists, engineers, and more to achieve this goal.
